The San Diego Horticultural Society (SDHS) is a dynamic group that reaches residential and professional gardeners throughout San Diego County. Since our founding in 1994, we have grown to over 1300 members, including passionate backyard gardeners, designers, nursery owners, writers, landscape architects, and other horticultural professionals. Our mission is to promote the enjoyment, art, knowledge and public awareness of horticulture in the San Diego area, while providing the opportunity for education and research.

Our motto—and the title of our monthly newsletter Let’s Talk Plants!—expresses what most members like best about the SDHS: We provide a forum for plant enthusiasts to share their knowledge. We invite you to attend our friendly monthly meetings which are open to everyone and include professional speakers, plant sales, plant descriptions by experts and much more. Each meeting attracts over 350 people, from the beginning gardener to the experienced orchid hybridizer, and we hope you will add us to your calendar, too.

A Brief History
The San Diego Horticultural Society sprang from modest seeds sown in 1994 by our founders Don and Dorothy Walker, Steve Brigham, Diana Goforth, Laurie Bussis, Linda Teague, Adele Snyder and Kathy Musial. Their vision was to establish a friendly group of garden enthusiasts—from beginners to skilled professionals—to get together and share information and the joy of gardening. Our first meeting was held in the Ecke Building at San Diego Botanic Gardens (then named Quail Botanical Gardens). Since 1994 we've maintained strong ties to the Gardens, even though we grew so quickly that in just two months we had to find a larger meeting space. SDHS now has over 1300 members, and our monthly meetings are held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

	An extensive lending library of books and videos, including videos of our speakers.
	Substantial annual college scholarships.
	Exciting evening events with world-famous horticulturists.
